The story behind #WhatMyMaskMeans
This year, it’s been all about our AB Face Masks, unsurprisingly. However, despite the surge in interest, owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, this mask was actually devised long before lockdown to support the clinical needs of one of our own. As we launch our #WhatMyMaskMeans campaign, we’re sharing what inspired the creation of this product and how we hope it can continue to help even more people as we head into 2021.
Our very own Aden, who works for Body Doctor as Production Manager, has Cystic Fibrosis (CF), a condition in which the lungs and digestive system can become clogged with thick, sticky mucus. CF patients often face regular hospital visits and are classed as clinically vulnerable - especially when faced with respiratory illnesses. Aden challenged us to create a mask for him to wear when he attended his clinics, to protect himself and others, and this product was born.
The AB mask is a reusable Face Mask, which uses filters. The material itself is antibacterial thanks to a patented solution with silver technology, which is added to the mask at the time of dying. This bonds with the fabric, does not come out when washed and cannot be breathed in or transferred onto the skin. The AB Mask is able to filter up to 95% of non-oily, airborne particles.
Now that mask wearing is a matter of public health, we’re inviting others to share #WhatMyMaskMeans. We’re telling Aden’s story and encouraging others to do the same, using the hashtag on Twitter and Facebook.
For every use of #WhatMyMaskMeans, we will be donating a mask to CF Care, who are working with us on the campaign.
