Top tips for keeping your eyes happy and healthy this allergy season

  • by Kay

Whilst we throw ourselves in to the Great British Summertime, a lot of us dread to see the pollen count rise. Up to 15% of people can experience Seasonal Allergic Conjunctivitis* (also known as Hay Fever Conjunctivitis) which is dependent on the pollens being released at the time – tree pollen in the spring, grass pollen in early summer along with fungal spores and weeds towards late summer.

These symptoms include puffy eyes, watery eyes, itchy eyes, and blurred vision which can be uncomfortable and prevents us from enjoying the great outdoors in anticipation of bad reactions to the pollen count. But how can you get rid of the itch quickly?

We understand the temptation but, do NOT rub your eyes! This will only make the problem worse. Treating eye allergies doesn’t need to be complicated, you can add this on to your usual eye care routine with these simple steps:

  • Using a cold compress to cool, soothe and reduce puffy swollen eyes, The Eye Doctor Hay Fever Eye Compress offers a thermal dynamic fabric cover which uses regulated evaporation to cool more rapidly. Simply cool the gel compress in the fridge and place it in the fabric cover to give you a longer lasting cooling effect for your sore, itchy eyes. and pop it in the fabric cover to give you a longer lasting cold compress.
  • The Eye Doctor Hay Fever Relief eyelid wipes can gently remove pollen particles and airborne allergens from the eyelids and eyelashes. Not only are they biodegradable, but they are suitable for sensitive eyes and can also be used on the nose and face.
  • Lubricating eye drops such as The Eye Doctor Daily Refresh eye drops helps keep the eyes moist and wash out the allergy containing elements from the eyes to relieve the itchy symptoms.
  • For an antibacterial treatment that is made with pharmaceutical-grade Manuka honey, Optimel Manuka Honey eye drops help to kill bacteria around the eyelids and stabilise the health of the surface of the eye by creating a macroenvironment on the ocular surface. This has been clinically proven to reduce swelling and inflammation plus there is scientific evidence to show that Manuka Honey allows increased healing of damaged epithelium cells.
